Things to do this weekend include the 15th Anniversary of 9/11, a street fair, a benefit show, harvest festivals, a fundraising event and a comedy show.
The Gerald R. Ford Museum will be the site of the “9/11 Never Forget” mobile exhibit this Friday through Sunday. The exhibit includes audio and video recordings of first responders at the site of the attacks, as well as steel beams from the towers, and FDNY Firefighters. Friday and Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free to the public.
The Eastown neighborhood will be the site of the annual Eastown StreetFair, at 10 a.m. Saturday. A portion of Wealthy Street will be closed to traffic and there will be an array of food, arts and crafts, and live music. The event is free and open to the public.
The Pyramid Scheme, 68 Commerce, is hosting the “1996 Tribute Show: A Benefit for Well house” at 8 p.m. Friday. Classic ‘90s albums by the bands Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, Beck, and Rage Against the Machine will be covered by a collection of Grand Rapids musicians. Proceeds from the show will go to Well House, which helps provide stable housing for homeless people in Grand Rapids. Tickets are $10 and guests over the age of 18 are welcome.
A number of Grand Rapids area farms and orchards are opening their grounds to families as part of the Kent Harvest Trails event. This is a family oriented event that encourages families to check out local farms and orchards during the fall harvest season. Some activities has fees associated with them. Participating farms and a complete list of the activities available can be found at the Kent Harvest Trails website.
Calder Plaza, 351 Ottawa Ave, will be the starting point for the West Michigan Tour de Cure + Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, at 5 a.m. Sunday. The event is being hosted by the American Diabetes Association. The event will feature teams of bicyclists and walkers fundraising for diabetes research and education. Dog Story Theater, 7 Jefferson Ave, is hosting “Comedy Outlet MONDAYS!” at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12. The show features local artists performing sketch comedy and more. Admission is $5. Guests of all ages are welcome.
