Seven new ArtPrize hubs are expanding accessibility for this year’s eighth annual event, which opens officially Sept. 21.
ArtPrize Communications Manager Jaenell Woods said this year there will be seven new hubs located around the city, compared to the one offered in years past. These hubs will function as information centers, facilitate voter registration, and more.
The first 20,000 visitors to these hubs will receive a commemorative tote bag provided by Meijer. A crowd of nearly 400,000 visitors is expected to attend this year’s ArtPrize which is featuring 1,453 art entries.
“Unlike other events, visitors can enter the event from anywhere. People can come in wherever they want, whenever they want,” Woods said. “We’re duplicating the efforts we have here (at the main hub) such as voter registration and information. We will have these welcome centers in each of the seven neighborhoods, plus the main hub.”
Nate BidwellThe eight ArtPrize Hubs will be located at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, Women’s City Club, Rumsey St. SiteLab, DeVos Place, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, Frederick Meijer Gardens, and 41 Sheldon, the official ArtPrize headquarters.
In 2015, ArtPrize generated nearly $27.4 million in new revenue for Grand Rapids.
